love transforms everything: Matt + Adlin’s Short Feature from Puerto Rico from Hoo Films | Shannon Avery on Vimeo.

One thing (of many) that I adore about both Matt and Adlin is how close to their families they are.  They each hold their family so dear to them, while hardly letting anyone else in their inner circle.  But then there’s the moment they met each other. In each other they found an unbreakable connection.  It is undeniable that these two completely adore each other inside and out.  I feel lucky to have been a part of this destination wedding at the El Conquistador Waldorf Astoriain Fajardo, Puerto Rico.  (One of my favorite islands, by the way! I almost didn’t make it back to California after this trip.)  The wedding day was such a joyous day with laughter, tears, more laughter, and A LOT of dancing!  After Matt and Adlin so preciously exchanged vows over looking the Caribbean, the party got started very quickly!  And…it…never…stopped.  Apparently, if you are from Puerto Rico (Adlin’s family is), then you were pretty much born to dance.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, but more importantly, everyone was truly in awe of the love that Matt and Adlin share.  And so am I.  And you will be too….just click play.

you are with me, my love is with you: Cassie + Brandon’s Hoo Trailer from Montage Laguna from Hoo Films | Shannon Avery on Vimeo.

It was the most gorgeous November wedding day one could ask for at The Montage Laguna Beach on November 8th, 2014.  Cassie and Brandon were the sweetest couple and so low key all day long.  They just wanted to relax and enjoy their day with each other. And that they did!  Jeannie of Details Details pulled together such a beautiful look that was so fitting for Cassie and Brandon.   Bloombox Designs did an amazing job setting up the ceremony area with some beautiful florals and some cool seating additions on the lawn.  The reception room was very unique and romantic and the guests were greeted with champagne flutes for name cards, which they all loved.  And let’s not forget those donuts from Donut Snob…boy, were those a hit!  Enjoy Cassie and Brandon’s heartfelt vows and the energy in the room while West Coast Music rocked the house for the Hora!  Mazel Tov!!

LIFE IS AN ADVENTURE #live from Hoo Films | Shannon Avery on Vimeo.

Last week I attended Infocus Video Events as 1 of 5 Keynote Speakers and wow, had a blast with it. It was such a fun and inspiring week with many of my filmmaker friends across the US. We gather, talk business, bounce ideas back and forth, and learn and grow from each other. This week really is a great lift off for all of us heading into another adventurous year!

My topic was “Infusing Life into Filmmaking through Adventure” and I implemented many business strategies through this 90 minute presentation. Many people asked me if I travel, how much I travel, and why my adventures inspire me. I simply showed this film and shared that these moments ignite my passion and allow me to feel connected to this craft continuously as I adventure into creating a new story for each and every Hoo Films couple.  If life is an adventure, what adventures are on your list?

Shantal + Jeff’s Ponte Winery Wedding from Hoo Films | Shannon Avery on Vimeo.

This was one day that had a clear theme: It’s all about family.  Beyond their deep love for each other, Shantal and Jeff have built a beautiful family and this day was celebrating just that.  They started off exchanging gifts – two amazing gifts with one that reminds me of the scene from Pretty Woman.  Yeah, always in a girl’s top favorite moments.:) The ceremony was outside covered in neutral, elegant florals, where they exchanged their own written words.  The reception was in the wine barrel room and was quite gorgeous!  Such a beautiful set up in there and the perfect place to celebrate.  All was held at The Ponte Winery.  I’m not going to lie, we have some amazing aerial views in this one.  You don’t want to miss it.  Enjoy!

Watch this genuine story come to life from a couple who went through some unexpected events prior to their wedding in Roatan.  Even though they had a (local) videographer booked from day one, they weren’t able to conceptualize the impact of their wedding film until some unexpected events took place and they got more than they bargained for.  For one, their local videographer skipped town leaving them with no one 2 weeks out from the wedding. Fast forward, after we turned that catastrophe into a blessing in disguise, we were headed out for the festivities on Roatan Island the night before the wedding. I never heard from them. I get an email late at night saying Jeremy has broken his arm and was rushed to two hospitals where there were no doctors equipped to do both X-Rays and surgery. As you can imagine, Jeremy was in extreme pain, barely slept, and had to stay away from too many pain killers as the biggest day of his life was only 12 hours away. Needless to say, the wedding went on. They had a gorgeous and intensely emotional wedding day with some of the most beautifully written vows I have ever witnessed. Unfortunately, Jeremy had some gaps in his memory (as expected after such a rough injury), and Amanda says the day went by in a heartbeat…such a whirlwind, she hardly remembered anything. After all that happened, Amanda admits if she had to do it all over again, she would have hired her first choice videographer, regardless of price, from the start of searching for vendors. Luckily, through these catastrophes, we found each other. This is one of my favorite stories. There is nothing better than seeing a couple completely in love… Except perhaps getting to see their wedding bliss in this film for the rest of time. Everyone should know a love like this. And everyone should have a film like this.
