Humbled and flattered by this amazing letter…

I feel honored to have been a part of this couple’s day…and they honestly give reason to why you shouldn’t skip having a film on your wedding day. This is not only one of the most heartfelt letters I’ve received, but a must read…

When my husband and I decided to have a private ceremony with only our parents present, hiring a videographer was something we desperately wanted to have. More than anything, we wanted to share in that intimate moment together, but have the ability to share that moment with our family and friends after our ceremony.

One afternoon, I stumbled upon the Hoo Films website and it just so happened that Shannon had recently filmed a private ceremony, very similar to what we were planning for ourselves. After my husband and I watched the film, we looked at each other, jaws on the ground… and of course, I was in tears. We decided we had to have Shannon film our wedding day no matter what it took!

Shannon is not only an incredible woman and now a dear friend of ours; she is amazing at what she does. To be honest, I don’t even think amazing describes her talent. Her work is unlike any other we had seen before and we truly feel spoiled to have had her by our side to capture our special day. Every single one of our friends is beyond jealous of our wedding film and that is because Shannon truly captured all of the special moments and emotions we felt that day and you can feel it when you watch our film. From getting ready, to reading our heartfelt vows, to simply goofing around taking pictures outside, she didn’t miss a thing! Watching Shannon in action, you are able to see the passion she has for her work and you know that you are in good hands!

Looking back, I can’t imagine reminiscing about our wedding day and not being able to watch our wedding film and relive those moments. To know that one day we will be able to show our children (and grandchildren) our wedding film gives me chills and is really something that you cannot put a price on. We have Shannon to thank for those memories that will last in our family for generations. We truly cannot praise this amazing woman and her incredible talent enough! If you are lucky to work with Shannon, you will be amazed with her every step of the way. This woman is as good as they come and you will be blown away by your wedding film!

We love you Shannon!!!”

Gorgeous Montage Laguna Beach Wedding: Michelle and Mike’s Hoo Trailer

Gorgeous Montage Laguna Beach Wedding: Michelle and Mike’s Hoo Trailer from Hoo Films | Shannon Avery on Vimeo.

For starters, Michelle might be one of the sweetest brides.  She has that soft spoken, kind, yet radiant personality that just makes you want to be near her.  And Mike might be the perfect example of how people gravitate towards her.  Their genuine love for each other was so evident throughout the day and they just seemed so happy to be sharing such a wonderful moment with all their friends and family surrounding them.  The wedding was gorgeous under the works of Alicia and Details Details. The ceremony and reception florals were amazing, arranged by Square Root.  After a couple beautiful messages, vows, and the breaking of glass, the reception started on a high with Impulse of West Coast Music and the Hora.  This is one of the best performing bands I’ve seen at a reception and everyone enjoyed them!  DJ Peter Papadopoulos capped off the night and kept the dance party moving all night!  It was also great working with the ever so talented Jessica Claire, who rocked the photography.  Michelle and Mike, you are one of the sweetest couples and I really enjoyed the both of you throughout the day as well as your wonderful families!  Enjoy your Trailer!

an Irish Catholic almost St. Patrick’s Day Trailer: Estrella + Casey’s Downtown Los Angeles Wedding

an Irish Catholic almost St. Patrick’s Day Trailer: Estrella + Casey’s Downtown Los Angeles Wedding from Hoo Films | Shannon Avery on Vimeo.

Now this couple was hard not hard for me to fall in love with… Our first dinner meeting was at an Irish pub where we sat down for Guinness and shepherd’s pie while ironing out the details they had planned for their day-before-st-paddy’s-day-extravaganza.  Twas the day before St. Patrick’s Day, we all headed to the Los Angeles Athletic Club for Estrella and Casey’s wedding…everyone wearing some sort of green.  Modern LA Weddings designed everything, adding their contemporary twist, and were fabulous to work with. Casey’s cuff links are also worth mentioning…they had a little map of Ireland on them..so cool!  Estrella dress is stunning and she is calm and excited to see the love of her life for  first look.  After the first look and some fun with the wedding party, we hopped on a trolley and hitched a windy ride to St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, downtown.  This church is gorgeous and I love the architecture – not only on the outside, but everything inside as well.  The two lovebirds exchanged vows, rings, and some tears.  It was a very touching Catholic ceremony.  Estrella and Casey took off in their Rolls Royce back to LAAC for cocktail and reception.  It started with their two favorite drinks: Guiness or Margaritas, while an Irish band, Green Ashes was playing on stage.  Everything was so festively planned, it really felt like St. Patrick’s Day!  So after some heartfelt speeches, a Mariachi band, and some fun performances with their frat boys and sorority sisters, the party continued as long as it could!  They even continued the Irish celebration at Casey’s Bar the next day with all of their family and friends before taking off to Ireland for their honeymoon!  Yes, I am very jealous!  Estrella and Casey, I’m so glad we’ve gotten to know each other over a Guinness and had such a blast filming your wedding!  Your friends and family are awesome and you truly have wonderful people surrounding you both.  Hope you are enjoying your time in Ireland — I want to hear all about it so I can plan my own trip to Ireland very soon!:)

South Asian Wedding from the Palace, San Francisco: Shveta + Sameer’s Hoo Trailer

South Asian Wedding from the Palace, San Francisco: Shveta + Sameer’s Hoo Trailer from Hoo Films | Shannon Avery on Vimeo.

An LA boy falls for a San Francisco girl…and so they’ve celebrated with festivities in So Cal and in Nor Cal.  You may have seen their Engagement Trailer here, which took place in LA. Next, it was time for henna tattoos, some more ceremonies, a aangeet in downtown San Jose, and finally, the wedding. For the extravagant wedding, the couple and their families headed up to The Palace, San Francisco for a beautiful backdrop for a wedding and reception.  Behind all the designs and florals was Asma’s Designs who did a spectacular job with their red infused mandap.  We had a blast shooting with Wedding Documentary who does great photography and are so refreshing to work next to! Sameer rode his horse and enjoyed his Baraat in the streets of downtown San Francisco with an awesome band and some amazing dancers.  Shveta was glamourous with her shiny jewels and long, gorgeous hair.  These two are so giggly, fun, and in love and it shows after spending the weekend and more importantly, their wedding day with them!  Shveta and Sameer, it has been so fun spending so much time with you both at all the festivities!

A snowy, intimate Colorado wedding: Jeni + Ethan’s Feature Film

A snowy, intimate Colorado wedding: Jeni + Ethan’s Feature Film from Hoo Films | Shannon Avery on Vimeo.

2013 was fast approaching and Jeni and Ethan were still in the very beginning stages of planning a 2013 wedding.  Ethan finally told Jeni he didn’t want to start the new year not having gotten married yet.  So mid December I get a call from Jeni asking if I could fly to Colorado to film their intimate wedding on New Year’s Eve.  I asked for details and she informed me the only guests would be family and they were planning on having the ceremony outside — hopefully in the snow.  This was also a surprise to Ethan as he had no idea Jeni was hiring us.  So NYE arrives and it started snowing in Boulder, Colorado!  I knew this would make Jeni happy and that we would all be in for a romantic winter setting.  We began the day at the historic Hotel Boulderado where we all met.  I headed to Ethan’s room to film him getting ready and he’s a little confused at first.  We then fill him in that we were hired a surprise for him.  He says, “Seriously?  Then he says, wait, what company are you?”  I tell him Hoo Films and he says, “OH, NO WAY, that’s rad!”  I then felt better about barging in his room unannounced with a camera on his private wedding day!  Then we headed over to the Boulder Dushanbe Tea House where the ceremony would take place outside.  At this point in the day, the temperate dropped to 14 degrees.  Yup… an outdoor wedding in the 14 degree snowy weather!  Jeni and Ethan exchanged the most heartfelt vows and then we took a walk around Pearl Street.  We landed for dinner, some champagne, and then a romantic outdoor first dance in the middle of Pearl Street that was lit up just perfectly for the newlyweds.  The extremely talented Chris Lind, friend of Ethan and musician, the flew in from New York and performed a cover of “Moondance” while Jeni and Ethan rang in the new year as husband and wife.  I just fell in love with Chris’ voice!  Chris was also generous enough to diligently record a brand, new, unreleased single ”Drive” for us to use in the piece.  Once you hear his voice – like me – I’m sure you’re going to want more, so you can check out his original music at chrislindmusic.com.  Enjoy this chilly, intimate piece that will leave you wanting your own wedding in the snow!  Jeni and Ethan, I’m so glad we were able to pull together last minute and document this special moment for you two!  We had so much fun in the snow and sharing NYE with you.  Although, I am happy to be home and thawed out now!;)

A rainy day with emotional vows in a candle lit Sonoma wine cave: Christina + Sean’s Feature Film

Christina + Sean’s Hoo Feature: A rainy day with emotional vows in a Sonoma wine cave from Hoo Films | Shannon Avery on Vimeo.

First of all, I’ve had way too much fun getting to know Christina and Sean as if they weren’t clients, but instead my new best friends.  We’ve had many, many laughs and that certainly continued through every minute of their wedding week.  Now, this wasn’t your typical destination wedding.  This destination wedding was a private, intimate one including only parents, their pastor, and well, photographers and us, who outnumbered their guest list.  We ran into the group the night before at a restaurant in downtown Napa and let’s just say I overheard some baby talk!  Before we get to that topic, let’s get the lovebirds through their wedding day!  They began getting ready at the Andaz in Downtown Napa where it was raining in the morning. We heard chances of rain and were told that it would come and go but “come and go” it did not.  It rained non-stop.  The ceremony was supposed be up on a hill at the Kunde Family Estate in Sonoma, but since the rain wouldn’t let up, a quick game time decision was made to set up for a candle lit ceremony in the wine cave.  About 100 yards past a line of wine barrels, there was a cute little stage perfectly setting the stage for Christina and Sean to share their intimate moment together.  These two wrote the most emotional vows giving all their grace to God for Him putting each other in their paths.  It was a beautiful story and an emotional exchange of words that had all of us reaching to wipe tears.  After Christina gets to finally call Sean “her husband,” we headed outside for some scenics with 8twenty8 Studios. Needless to say, it was still raining.  We all took umbrellas and shot as much as we could.  Kudos to Christina for sticking it out in a dress!  I’m glad we wintered through the week’s weather, though because we got some amazing footage of this couple just giggling and being romantic in the rain.  What’s more romantic on Valentine’s Day than to post a video with kissing in the rain!  Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  We love you owlways!

Christina and Sean, it has been such a blast to enjoy your journey with you and most of all, to enjoy a week up north with you.  You two are so in love, it radiates and it’s couple like you that make my job so fun.  I know we’ll have more dinners and glasses of wine in the future!
